Attend a STRAWkle
STRAWkles happen every weekend over Summer, but as the weather starts to cool off STRAWkles will be run on the first weekend of the month.
STRAWkles kick off at 9 am at Manly Cove, meeting at the grassy area out the front of the art gallery. The event begins with a short briefing and a 45 minute STRAWkle. We then count and tally the plastic straws we find.
You will need to bring your own snorkel, mask, and fins. It's starting to get chilly in Sydney so we highly recommend bringing a wetsuit if you've got one. If you don't have your own equipment or wetsuit, our friends at Dive Center Manly offer discounts on gear for those that take part in Operation Straw.
We’re a small team, and currently only run STRAWkles in Manly Cove. If you are interested in hosting a STRAWkle in your local community, get in touch.
Host a STRAWkle
Is there an underwater area in your local community that needs some TLC?
Whilst Operation Straw has so-far focused on plastic straws, the model can be used for any kind of single-use plastic item. There are many areas around Sydney, and more widely, around Australia that are facing similar marine debris related problems to Manly Cove.
By hosting a STRAWKle you can inspire your community to act on plastic pollution whilst helping collect data on marine debris in your local area.
If you are interested in hosting a one-off STRAWKle event, or would like to set up a series of STRAWkles in your local area, drop us a line using the form below and we’ll get in touch as soon as we can.
